Tourist information

North Portugal consists of the regions Minho, Trás-os-Montes and Douro. The North characterizes itself by many areas of scenic beauty and conservation areas.

The Douro, the large river in the north of Portugal flows into Porto. This city, stately raised above the water side has a rich history of navigation and trade. We recommend to admire Porto from the former convent. Here you have a splendid view on the bridges over the Douro, the houses built against hillocks and on the cathedral on the top.

In the hinterland of Porto you can find the vintages where the famous port-wine is produced. You can see the vintages for example during a boat trip on the Douro.

Still further country-inward you arrive in the magnificent green Portugal, which is considered by many visitors as the most beautiful region of Portugal. Here in the hills you find rivers, country houses, vineyards and olive orchards. In the National Park Peneda-Geres you can walk in a woody and mountainous landscape with brooks, waterfalls and wild horses.

The farmer families live mostly in small granite houses and hold on to traditions. If you have the chance, experience a folkloristic national festival. Braga with its palaces from the Renaissance, Viana do Castelo, was already called by the Roman people the most beautiful city.

Bragança with the impressive medieval citadel is also certainly a visit worth. To the coast the landscape is flatter with long sand beaches, interrupted by river mouths.
